Plummiting Xbox sales push Microsoft revenues down

Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices division generated $3.8 billion in revenue in the last three months of 2012, as 5.9 million Xbox 360 consoles were shipped, which is down from 8.2 million during the same time last year.

The company also made $1.1 billion less than it did last year. According to Microsoft, this was "due mainly to lower volumes of consoles sold and lower video game revenue."

All-in-all, the Entertainment and Devices Division, saw profits up and revenues down. This was due to a reduction in marketing costs, and the latter was a because of dwindling demand for Xbox 360 consoles.

What do Microsoft expect? With the rumours that Xbox 360 games will not be compatible with the next-gen Xbox, less people are going to buy a new Xbox as it will soon become obsolete.

Some people are, it's been out for 10 years. I think the new console will boost revenue for Microsoft though which should be good. It should be interesting to see how the sales of the 360 and the new console compare though.
