Although Tekken 7 started off by adding some fairly normal fighters as DLC and not really surprising its players that much, that started to change as the game went on, with weird choices like Noctis from Final Fantasy 15, Geese Howard from Fatal Fury, and, strangest of all, Negan from The Walking Dead.
Negan was a strange enough choice for a DLC fighter for Tekken 7, but it looks like he wasn't even the weirdest pick that the team went with. As revealed by Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada, former US President Donald Trump was briefly considered as a potential fighter, although it seems the idea was quickly put on ice.
Over on Twitter, Harada replied to a comment jokingly saying that Donald Trump is going to be a character in Tekken 8 and revealed that he was discussed as a potential fighter for Tekken 7 on the night that Trump won his presidential election in 2016. Harada and Tekken producer Micheal Murray were in San Francisco at the time and Harada pointed out that there wouldn't be any licensing fees for adding the President of the United States to Tekken.
"There's a lot of buzz around it, so why don't we put him in the game?"
Harada then said that since there was a lot of buzz around Trump's election, they should add him to the game as a fighter. Harada and Murray then started talking about Trump's potential fighting style and Rage Arts (a sentence I can't believe I'm typing even as I do it), before "sealing" the idea.
Harada then revealed that the idea was quickly forgotten after the Uber driver they were with at the time started speeding around and shouting "F**k Donald Trump". To think, if it wasn't for the Uber driver and their dislike of the at-the-time president, we could be living in a world where Trump can get beaten up by the cast of Tekken. Considering all of the allegations that have come to light about Trump since 2016, it's certainly for the best that never happened, otherwise replaying Tekken 7 would probably leave you with a pretty grim taste in your mouth.
