Report: Next Xbox to "kill" pre-owned, requires always on net connection

4.6
Sources claim to have word that the next-gen Xbox will require an always-on internet connection and will block the use of pre-owned games.

The source says that another source “with first hand experience” of the console adds that games will still be buyable, which are supplied on 50GB Blu-ray discs. It is understood that disc games will use an activation code.

So, no more going to the shops and buying cheap second-hand games? There has to be more people who think this is a bad idea by Microsoft.

If they follow through with this I'd rather have the PS4 to be honest... And for the price of that I could get a couple of nice gfx cards and just be a pc gamer?

Wow, I hope they don't follow through with this, if they do. I think I will jus stick with the 360.

I gotta say if they make all games like diablo 3 where you're required to be on the internet to use it, that would be annoying.

That said, I have internet like 99% of the time, but on those rare occasions when it goes out or whatever, it would be annoying not being able to play singleplayer or whatever.

Doing away with preowned games is stupid too unless they plan on lowering the price of new games to something more reasonable like $40. Basically it sounds to me like they wanna turn it into steam where you buy a game and it's linked to your account. This is fine in theory, but if the price stays at $60, people will only buy the good/proven games and I imagine sales will drop for everything else because people won't want to take chances on crap games or games that don't really justify the price.

I can see something like what battlefield is doing as possible, where there is a 10-20 dollar code that you need to purchase if you're getting the game used, but if you're forcing people to pay 60+ dollars for a game and then they have to keep it, that's pretty lame. (I keep all my games so I don't really care, but I do pick up used games on the side)

Terrible idea MICROSOFT... money hungry piggies

I do think this is a bad idea, however if they add an option to rent games via XBL so you can "try before you waste your money on a shit game you can't trade in" then i'll be fine
