FF7 Remake Part 3 Dev is “Hard at Work on it,” Says Creative Director

4.3
With Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth out now on PS5 and earning extensive accolades from critics, the development team is focusing on the third and final entry of the Remake saga. Though it hasn’t announced a release window or even an official name, a new 42-minute video is available where series composer Nobuo Uematsu (who composed Rebirth’s theme song, “No Promises to Keep”), scenario writer Kazushige Nojima, and creative director Tetsuya Nomura talk about the trilogy.

While Nomura talks about wanting to be “done with this absolute marathon of projects”, he also asks if Uematsu will return to compose the main theme for the third part. It’s more of a “gentleman’s agreement” rather than an official one, though Uematsu says it would “be my honor.”

Nomura also revealed that he and Nojima are “hard at work on” the next game, and humorously asked if Uematsu was up for the challenge. “Gonna be hard to surpass the songs you’ve already composed for us,” Nomura said.

Nothing has been revealed about the next part, though director Naoki Hamaguchi said that progress was made on the script and that the world would have to be “rebuilt” to accommodate Part 3’s controllable airship. It’s also possible that players will explore Rocket Town, cut from Rebirth to flesh out the Gongaga region.
