Square Enix is reportedly bringing Mistwalker’s Fantasian to consoles

Fantasian, the Apple Arcade game written and produced by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, is reportedly coming to consoles this year.

That’s according to industry insider Nate the Hate, who has a track record of breaking stories ahead of their official announcement.

In a new podcast, Nate the Hate claimed that Square Enix has partnered with developer Mistwalker to publish Fantasian for Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

They said the game will be announced for Switch during a Nintendo Direct presentation on Tuesday.

Part 1 of Fantasian was released on Apple Arcade in April 2021, with Part 2 arriving four months later.

Fantasian saw Sakaguchi returning to traditional turn-based RPG gameplay for the first time since 2007’s Lost Odyssey for Xbox 360.

The game also features a soundtrack by legendary Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu.

Its most unique feature, however, is its art style – the game’s environments are all real-life dioramas created by Japanese artists who have worked on ‘tokusatsu’ (special effects) films including the Godzilla movies, Attack on Titan and Ultraman.

These dioramas were then scanned and turned into in-game environments, resulting in realistic backgrounds.

Sakaguchi said last year that he wanted to bring Fantasian to PC eventually, and also potentially work on a sequel.

A apparent listing for Fantasian appeared in Steam’s database last year.
