The FAF-14 Spear has caused many issues in Helldivers 2, including game crashes, following the release of update 1.000.402 this week. Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios is looking into the problems associated with the Spear as the team prepares for the game's next update.

Helldivers 2 is one of the most popular games of 2024 and the most successful title developed by Arrowhead Game Studios thus far. Well over 450,000 concurrent players logged into Helldivers 2 during its launch month in February, and the game still holds over 53,000 concurrent Steam players four months after launch. Post-launch support for Helldivers 2 has been consistent as well, with new weapons and content being added regularly in free updates. On June 18, Arrowhead Game Studios released Helldivers 2 update 1.000.402, which introduced a slew of general quality of life improvements and crash fixes. Unfortunately, the update negatively affected the FAF-14 Spear, causing players to experience game crashes while using the weapon.

After receiving various player reports regarding the Spear, Helldivers 2 community manager Twinbeard confirmed that the development team is looking into game crashes affiliated with the use of the weapon. As reported by PC Gamer, Twinbeard notes that a Helldivers 2 hotfix could arrive as soon as next week to remedy the issue, after jokingly stating that the Spear is cursed for the time being. Once ready, Arrowhead Game Studios will most likely reveal patch notes for the hotfix. More information will likely be shared on the Helldivers 2 Discord server as well, since the game's developers regularly share updates with the community there. Thus far, the exact cause of the Spear crashing issue appears to be unknown.

A Helldivers 2 hotfix could arrive as soon as next week to fix the Spear crashing bug.

The Spear is one of Helldivers 2's most powerful weapons, but players must opt for an alternative weapon while the developers work on fixing the Spear's crashing bug. Some of these alternatives may include the Exploding Crossbow and GP-31 Grenade Pistol. Once fixed, the Spear can finally be used as originally intended, since update 1.000.402 fixed the weapon's ability to target several enemies, including Automaton Spawners, at once.

Moreover, Helldivers 2 players on PC may need a better GPU in order to experience the Spear's devastating explosions. While paired with a capable CPU, a high-end GPU ensures players may avoid performance-based issues such as stuttering and low frame rates during missions. Future updates should further optimize the PC version and remedy any lingering issues affecting all versions of the game.
