Capcom Addresses Demand for Monster Hunter Wilds Switch Port

3.7
Ahead of its 2025 launch, Capcom was asked about the possibility of Monster Hunter Wilds releasing for the Switch, and it would seem the company has no plans to push the game onto the Nintendo console. Monster Hunter Wilds aims to be one of the most impressive titles in the beloved action-adventure franchise, and Capcom appears to be focusing only on the highest-tech platforms for the game's launch.

While a number of older Capcom games released for the Nintendo Switch have been positively received by fans, newer AAA titles have had mostly mixed performances. Several titles in the Resident Evil franchise have been ported to the Switch via Cloud gaming, but Capcom seems to be avoiding the Switch and its limited hardware capabilities with its newer big-name launch.

During the latest Capcom shareholders meeting, a question brought up whether Monster Hunter Wilds would be limited to releasing for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC or if it would also launch on portable platforms like the Nintendo Switch. Capcom responded that Monster Hunter Wilds will "portray the maximum of the world" and prioritize "utilizing the latest technology to its limit." It was further stated that PS5, Xbox Series, and PC are the current platforms "capable of realizing that concept." As such, it would seem that Capcom currently has no plans to port Monster Hunter Wilds to the Switch or other portable platforms, though they did not specifically rule any systems out. Whether other Capcom games in development will also skip over the Switch is unknown, but Nintendo fans may have to look to other platforms if they want to play Monster Hunter Wilds at launch.

With Capcom focusing on the highest-tech platforms for the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds, many fans are reminded of the unfortunately limited hardware capabilities of the Nintendo Switch. While the console manages most first-party Nintendo titles just fine, as one would expect, other AAA releases have consistently struggled on the portable platform. Cloud gaming options have allowed some bigger titles to make the jump to the Switch, though audiences have voiced dissatisfaction with the Nintendo online server support. Rumors of the Switch successor having major hardware upgrades have given players hope that some of these major releases will eventually make their way to a powerful Nintendo console. Presently, it remains to be seen if larger games like Monster Hunter Wilds will ever be launch titles on a portable Nintendo platform.

It should come as no surprise that many portable video game systems continue to lag behind their more powerful console and PC counterparts. While some fans will gladly accept the convenience of a portable platform in sacrifice of performance, others are left to wonder if highly-anticipated releases like Monster Hunter Wilds will ever be sustained on handheld devices or if developers will continue to prioritize the best technologies.
