Sonic Team Head Hints at Possible Sonic Advance Trilogy Remaster

3.8
If you’ve been hoping for a remaster of the Sonic Advance series, you’re not alone. The team behind the Sonic the Hedgehog games is interested in exploring the possibility of remastering them.

The Sonic Advance series, which first debuted in the early 2000s, holds a nostalgic place in the hearts of many fans. It’s been over two decades since these titles were first released, and a remaster would be exciting news for longtime enthusiasts.

In a recent interview with VGC (via Game Rant), Takashi Iizuka, the head of Sonic Team, stated that the team would “love to” remaster the Sonic Advance trilogy. Iizuka’s comments give a hint at a possibility of reviving these classic games, though nothing is confirmed at this stage.

While Sega and Team Sonic are interested in the project, they haven’t yet had the opportunity to begin working on a remaster. Iizuka’s enthusiasm, however, does give hope to fans who have been waiting for years to see the Sonic Advance games updated for modern platforms.

Iizuka also mentioned Katsuyuki Shigahara, the director of Sonic Origins and a game designer for Mario. Shigahara discussed the trend of remastering older games and bundling them together in one compilation, a concept Iizuka finds appealing. A compilation of the Sonic Advance trilogy, similar to Sonic Origins, could be one way these games make a comeback.

Still, Iizuka was careful to manage expectations. He said that nothing is set in stone, noting that he’s open to any opportunities that may arise but has no firm plans to announce.

Elsewhere in the interview, Iizuka addressed other fan-favourite topics, including the Chao Garden mini-game and the potential for a Sonic Adventure 3.

Although there are no current plans to develop these projects, he stated that the team would be open to working on them should the opportunity present itself.

For now, Sonic Advance fans can hold onto hope, as the door isn’t closed on revisiting these cherished titles in the future.
