Podcast turn it off unplug it.
But then if you do that you can't start up your console. So that would suck to get up and plug it back in every time you want to play Xbox. There is no point in having to have it on all the time or plugged into to boot the console, they could still ship it with every xbox so the developers expect everyone to have a kinect.

TTG_SreyoMPAAdiegog Kinect is not required for Xbox One to function but it is needed to do all of the things that they showed off and Every boundle of the Xbox One will come with a kinect sensor its not optional
I suggest you re-read the news article.
