Dotemu has announced Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, a new side-scrolling entry in the long-running action series.

A collaboration with Koei Tecmo Games and Team Ninja, the game is being developed by Blasphemous studio The Game Kitchen.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound will be released for Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox consoles in the summer of 2025.

“Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound successfully unites the classic lore and gameplay of the Tecmo-developed (now Koei Tecmo Games) Ninja Gaiden series from the 8-bit era with the depth and intensity of the modern 3D entries,” reads the description accompanying the game’s reveal trailer, which is viewable above. “The best of both eras come together to create an epic and thrilling adventure.

“Our story begins when Ryu Hayabusa journeys to America to honor his father’s will. While he is away, the barrier between the human and the demon worlds suddenly shatters, unleashing a terrifying army upon the Hayabusa Village, which now faces an unprecedented threat in Ryu’s absence. To stand against this new threat, Kenji Mozu, a young ninja from the Hayabusa Village, rises to the challenge!”

The Game Kitchen producer and game director David Jaumandreu told the PlayStation Blog: “While creating the concept, we approached the franchise with a deep appreciation for its significance as a landmark in the action genre during two distinct eras: the late ’80s and the early 2000s. Both the classic 2D and modern 3D iterations stood out for their exceptional quality, offering tight gameplay, striking visuals, memorable music, and captivating storytelling.”

He added: “Creating a new 2D installment in such a renowned saga is a beautiful and demanding challenge. However, with such a strong foundation to build on and a well-established team that shares a deep love for the series, this journey has been incredibly rewarding. We hope that fans feel as excited as we do to see the legacy of Ninja Gaiden live on in this new chapter.”

A host of titles were revealed at The Game Awards, including a new sci-IP from Naughty Dog, an Okami sequel from a new studio headed by Hideki Kamiya, a third-person Turok game, and a new Virtua Fighter from Like a Dragon studio Ryu Ga Gotoku.
