Former Devil May Cry, Dragon's Dogma Director Working On New Project

After working at Capcom for over 30 years, Hideaki Itsuno departed Capcom in August 2024 to join Tencent's Lightspeed Studios. Itsuno is known to have worked on some of Capcom's most significant properties, such as Devil May Cry, Dragon's Dogma, and Capcom vs. SNK 2.

It looks like Itsuno is ready to talk about his new game, as the developer teased it as part of his New Year greetings.

Aside from hoping to announce his new project, Itsuno is also seeking developers to help them in the work. While there's no word whether Itsuno's project will be a AAA game or a smaller-scaled project, odds are, it'll be a while before it's released, given it hasn't been revealed yet, and the studio is just hiring more developers.

With Capcom owning the IP for Devil May Cry and Dragon's Dogma, whatever Itsuno is working on will be new. Whatever it is, it's hard not to get excited, given Itsuno's past body of work.

Itsuno's latest title is the critically acclaimed Dragon's Dogma 2. This action-RPG was one of the best games of last year, and our review states, "The experience it provides is wholly unique, despite its numerous touchstone tropes and familiar elements. Everything in the game comes together to create a cohesive, immersive whole that I find myself constantly thinking about when I don't have my controller in hand."

Before Dragon's Dogma 2, Itsuno directed Devil May Cry 5, which is a confirmed critical and commercial hit, selling over two million copies in less than two weeks. Our review of the fifth numbered entry in the franchise reflects how awesome it is, with our review mentioning, "While DMC5 has upped the series' style and flashiness to heights never seen before, it also packs in a surprising level of warmth and humanity that doesn't completely let its focus on style overwhelm substance."

It's hard to guess what Itsuno is working on, as aside from Devil May Cry and Dragon's Dogma, the industry veteran also worked on fighting games. However, if I had to hazard a guess, I'd peg Itsuno's project to be an action game with RPG elements.
