Windows 8.1 Start button shown in leaked screenshots

4.6
Leaked screenshots have revealed the look of the Start button that's rumored to be returning to Windows in its 8.1 update. Paul Thurrott has posted images showing the brand new Start button fashioned as an unadorned Windows 8 icon. According to ZDNet, clicking on the button will likely return users to the Start Screen, rather than opening a menu like in earlier versions of Windows. However, the Start Screen can reportedly now use your desktop wallpaper as its background, helping to blend the potentially jarring change between the desktop and Modern UI style interface.

The Verge learned earlier this year both that the Start button would be returning and that a boot to desktop option is being considered for the coming update. Thurrott is also reporting that a boot to desktop option will be included, but that it will be turned off by default. Though Microsoft is yet to confirm that either of these options will be present in Windows 8.1, this new leak certainly helps to further substantiate the Start button's return.

That start button looks horrible, and it's not an actual start button anyway because it just links directly to metro.

FuzBie I think Windows 8 is terrible to use on a laptop because they have the gestures that you can use and when your trying to do something your computer is wanting to do something else and it gets really frustrating.

I think sticking to Windows 7 is just fine with me.

same here don't like the new windows how much does it cost? when it comes out

I absolutely hate Windows 8 without the start button. I am so used to having a start button.

I use windows 7 usually, but the few times I've used 8 I disliked it.

I believe there was a tweak of some sort to add a start button to 8, don't remember.

I felt the same way when I first got windows 8, I was so mad that it didnt have a start button and I realized how much I needed it once I didnt have it. This tweak you speak of is called Start8 and includes a start button exactly the same as the one on windows 7. It only cost's 5 dollars and has a 30 day free trial. With this windows is 8 is all that I expected and more.

No1Survivalistxxx I have windows 8 and love it. It has all the features of windows 7 with much more. People who say they hate it, only blame the start button. If they researched; there are hundreds of plugins. The day i got windows 8 i installed one and have always had a start button and boots to desktop.

Just a modern, sleek version on windows 7 with the addition of 'tiles'

:P

I've had a bug were I can't change my Desktop background with Windows 8.

The only reason I see Windows 8 as beneficial is with touchscreens. I have a touchscreen laptop running Windows 8 and I think it's more enjoyable. But if my Computer didn't have a touchscreen I would say Windows 7 all the way
