Call of Duty: Ghosts won’t make use of always-online option

4.6
Infinity Ward has said the ability to use the always online option on next-gen consoles isn’t something the firm has explored just yet.

Speaking with Eurogamer during a Call of Duty: Ghosts demo, producer Mark Rubin said while it is something the firm may look into in the future, the team is focused on fun first, and not tech.

“It’s not really something we would explore just yet,” he said. “I’ll be the first to admit, we’re not the tech chasers. We’ve never been the most hi-tech, super graphics check-box list guys. We try to make fun first. Then if tech helps make fun better then great. If not then we don’t really need it.

“There’s interesting stuff out there. I’m totally engaged as a developer in what we could possibly do. But we’re going to take it safe and make sure it’s actually benefiting the game first before we just go check that box.”

For now, though, it’s not in the card for Ghosts – but a Wii U version is: a version Rubin said to “stay tuned” on.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is out in November and will release on PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

I can't think of anything they could do that would require always-online.

Conquistador Does it matter if any developer for the Xbox One has this feature? Either way the console is going to do a 24 hour DRM check anyway and will not allow you to use the console if you aren't connected, including CoD offline. So, why does it matter?

That's only for cloud games.

Well great to hear that wont be used having to connect to the internet once every 24 hours kills alot of people I want to know the ammound of people that own a game console that dont have internet access to it proably a substantial number my guess.

So, is this meaning that we can be offline and play the campaign? Or does this mean that they aren't integrating something that needs the internet, like Forza's new "AI" tech? If it's where we can play campaign offline, does that mean all the publishers have the option to not include the always online required? I just think they aren't integrating anything that requires it. Still bothers me you need to have an internet connection at least an hour everyday.

Lucky_Otter They may as well go with the online always. It's not like anyone who buy's this game who doesn't play the multiplayer.

No they shouldn't make it always online, yes people play multiplayer on COD, but if people's internet goes out and they want to play campaign offline, then they can't because of it always being online. I'm glad they're not making it always online and I'm sure a bunch of other people are.

I have never played the CoD campaign and most people haven't either. Look at their achievements and you will see. No one cares about CoD's campaign. Simple fact. If you buy CoD for the story then I feel sorry for you.

Actually if you buy the new CoD's at all I feel sorry for you.

Agreed.
