DayZ more likely on PS4 than Xbox One

Both Microsoft and Sony have approached Bohemia Interactive about porting DayZ to new hardware, but creator Dean “Rocket” Hall is more in favour of the PlayStation 4 than Xbox One.

“We talked to both of them. But, as I’m sure you’re aware, Sony lets you self-publish and they don’t make you pay for updates,” Hall told Eurogamer.

“Microsoft requires you to have a publisher. They have no digital distribution strategy and they require you to pay $10,000, or whatever it is, for updates.”

Hall said that Bohemia likes Sony, and that he personally liked what he saw on the PlayStation 4.

“I like what I saw on the Xbox in a lot of cases as well,” he added. I’m not shitting on them. I’m kind of hopeful that Microsoft has just forgot to talk about its indie support. Maybe I’m being a bit naive.”

The architecture of both consoles mean Hall doesn’t see many barriers to getting DayZ running on either of them.

“It’s totally achievable. The only barriers are the ones console manufacturers put up in the way of indie devs,” he said.

“That’s the only barrier now. I’d love to see this on Xbox Live. I’d love to see it on PS4.”

A console port is probably inevitable but the DayZ team won’t start on it until the PC standalone release is finished.

The PS4 seems to be like a dumb phone, it only focuses only calling and texting.

The Xbox One is like s smart phone, does more than just play games. But the PS4 fanboys are like the old people who hate smarts phone because they they should only call and text.

Hey, I love all of your comments on the console war, I have same idea but with different wording, Sony fans are just afraid to adapt to changes are new ideas

What are you talking about? He hasn't said it was going to be a PS4 exclusive. He did say, he would like to see it on both consoles.


What one do you think he will pick... PS4 which has more pre orders, cost less to put on PS4, and easier to put put on PS4. Or Xbox one which has less pre orders, cost WAY more to put on Xbox, and needs a publisher to digitally distribute the game.

If they make a port for the consoles it would be not as food as the pc. Also I heard that microsoft does not allow indie devs to self publish but never heard of the $10,000 update fee. Microsoft are just douchbags and this is coming from me a indie developer.

It's funny, that when PS4 fans try to put the Xbox down they always make up stuff. If it wasn't for the used games and online check-in Microsoft's presentation would have destroyed Sony's despite the price difference. Sony's exclusive list is a little bit longer, but I worry about quality over quantity and Xbox will have more quality exclusives. One guy tried to tell me that PS4s graphics are 50% better, not true the hardware have tiny differences, but end the will be very similar graphics wise. You have to pay play multiplayer now that will cost 60 a year just like Xbox, which many people fail to realize. I'm sure the PS network will still suck and even though they are adding party chat, I'm sure it will still be horrible quality.
