Xbox One: Microsoft explains why it doesn’t include a headset

Xbox One consoles will not be bundled with headsets because it comes with Kinect, Microsoft has said. The company has issued a statement on the matter

In a statement to Ars Technica, a Microsoft official said, “Xbox One does not include a pack-in headset accessory.

“Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences. For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire.”

Sold separately, the Xbox One Chat Headset has not been priced, but it is confirmed as having mono sound, a directional mic, volume control and a mute button.

Kinect does have cameras sure, but it’s no use to people who want to play a shooter and who doesn’t want to have the sound of gunfire blaring across their home while their kids are trying to get some kip.

The Kinect is crap. When using it to chat with people, you can here so many things in the background. Its horrible! :/

Marketer When the PS3 first came out they didn't include a headset. The PS3 also had a starting price of $499.99 and $599.99. They also didn't include a fancy camera either.


So many people don't want the Kinect though. I'm one of those people who really don't want the Kinect but it's whatever I guess.

Well they actually didn't loose a customer because you are going to PC, so that means you are going to buy windows, unless you get a mac or use Linux which isn't really made for gaming. So if you think about it you are still buying an OS from Microsoft.

Really? I'm not quite sure how Microsoft managed to fix all of their other mistakes and then announce this. The kinect mic is terrible and this is just a money-whore tactic because they know everybody will get one.
