Xbox One: Microsoft explains why it doesn’t include a headset

Xbox One consoles will not be bundled with headsets because it comes with Kinect, Microsoft has said. The company has issued a statement on the matter

In a statement to Ars Technica, a Microsoft official said, “Xbox One does not include a pack-in headset accessory.

“Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences. For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire.”

Sold separately, the Xbox One Chat Headset has not been priced, but it is confirmed as having mono sound, a directional mic, volume control and a mute button.

Kinect does have cameras sure, but it’s no use to people who want to play a shooter and who doesn’t want to have the sound of gunfire blaring across their home while their kids are trying to get some kip.

Regardless of what you guys say the kinect mic always will be horrible, its like talking on speaker phone, when your phone is on the other side of the room

seriously? Most people are in a party chat or in game chat. if the kinect 2 is anything like the first one, all its going to be is a terrible mic that plays the audio out of the tv

I would rather they charge us $499 and include the microphone and not the Kinect then just to get the Kinect and no mic.

Kinect mics are horrible. I would pick a mic over a kinect anyday anytime lol

I can almost bet you that the kinect mic (v2) will be terrible quality anyways, there is sound coming from everywhere in the house or w/e. There isn't a way to single out all directions of the sound except where your voice is.

It's even worse when they have the TV really loud and you can hear the TV sounds and the people talking in the game echoing from their Kinect :/


Just to let everyone know, this is a brand new kinect. We don't know how it will sound or anything, so stop talking crap about it until you have one or hear it...
