Xbox One: Microsoft explains why it doesn’t include a headset

4.8
Xbox One consoles will not be bundled with headsets because it comes with Kinect, Microsoft has said. The company has issued a statement on the matter

In a statement to Ars Technica, a Microsoft official said, “Xbox One does not include a pack-in headset accessory.

“Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences. For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire.”

Sold separately, the Xbox One Chat Headset has not been priced, but it is confirmed as having mono sound, a directional mic, volume control and a mute button.

Kinect does have cameras sure, but it’s no use to people who want to play a shooter and who doesn’t want to have the sound of gunfire blaring across their home while their kids are trying to get some kip.

Even if it is improved, it's still going to be overly sensitive and sense the most miniscule sound in the corner across the whole room.

The current Kinect makes it sound like the person talking is drowning.

It should have improved since the original at least.

The only problem is you either have to buy all new ones or get a adapter which god only know how much that will cost.

triksta2k11 See the problem with this is the terrible language and abuse you get on CoD. Imagine everyone in your house (younger children especially) having to listen to "YOU SMELLY UGLY BAS*ERD WHAT DAFUQ YOU DOING I'LL R*PE YOUR MOM AND DAD YOU UGLY C*NT"...

Well if they're using that language, I'm pretty sure their mother would hear them and yell at them...

But they already use that kind of language! Only difference is now your whole family can hear it! Very unnecessary if you ask me!

Tend Kinect mics were terrible on the 360. Maybe they might be better.

You could always tell who had one, sounded like their TV was underwater.

If they fixed the new Kinect where it doesn't sound like that, then it will be usable for a mic without anybody having to worry too much.

They'd still have to fix the problem where it echo'd tons

Yeah that's what I was thinking about as well. I don't think they will be able to fix the echo from the TV at all. The only way that is fixed is if the people with the Kinect mute their TV. But if Microsoft finds a solution for that then hey whatever works.
