Sony declined to bundle PS4 camera in order to best Xbox One price

Sources close to IGN have said the PlayStation 4 camera was nixed a bundled add-on with every PS4 in order to knock $100 off the original price of $499. Which is the same price as Xbox One.

Sony only informed its retail partners the camera would not be included, but never specified a lower price point in order not to tip off Microsoft before its own reveal, according to the report.

This goes against what various Sony execs have previously said, particularly Shuhei Yoshida.

IGN notes that it may have ‘beaten’ Microsoft by making the camera optional, but it has also diminished consumer adoption of the product, not to mention creating an inconsistent software support.

I don't mind that the camera is not included. I wouldn't really use it anyway. What i really want is to play games on a powerful console

mysticalrainbow This is frustrating. No company has what it takes to take risks and create something truly next gen! All Sony does is stay safe and add better graphics and call it next gen. Microsoft could have been different and tried something new but no.. I wish we could have gotten games that would have been truly revolutionary.


I'm not to concerned about the lack on innovation at sony. I am drawn to consoles because of their simplicity. I like the way that they have kept it the same yet more powerful.

Exactly what you just said.. RUMORS. Xbox already said that you NEED the camera to use the Xbox and every system will come with one.

slapshot101 People are going to care a lot more about the price then the Kinect/Eye that comes with it especially when it is a $100 difference.


I don't understand. $100 is not a lot of money. I make that in 2 days and for something that is going to give me many hours of fun I think it's worth it.

Lol my laptops webcam is better than the Kinect 1 if your were smart you would actually look into the product you were talking **** about, the Playstation Camera literally does just about everything Kinect 2 does plus it has two HD cameras that record at 60fps not just one. The only reason idiots like you think you know about it is because Sony hasn't shoved down peoples throats like MS.


Sorry, but I wish I could have a PS4 and Kinect 2. Kinect is a lot better than the PS camera.
