Sony declined to bundle PS4 camera in order to best Xbox One price

Sources close to IGN have said the PlayStation 4 camera was nixed a bundled add-on with every PS4 in order to knock $100 off the original price of $499. Which is the same price as Xbox One.

Sony only informed its retail partners the camera would not be included, but never specified a lower price point in order not to tip off Microsoft before its own reveal, according to the report.

This goes against what various Sony execs have previously said, particularly Shuhei Yoshida.

IGN notes that it may have ‘beaten’ Microsoft by making the camera optional, but it has also diminished consumer adoption of the product, not to mention creating an inconsistent software support.

OT: I can see why they do this, just so people can go out and buy it if they want it, not get it auto-matically.


But if everyone has it developers are most likely to make better games for it.

Don't see how you think it's not a good business move. The Xbox One is costing more because of the Kinect. So many people don't want the Kinect and I'm one of them. It's just costing more money when I will never use it and it's going to take up space.


Imagine the ways developers could utilize kinect/PS eye if they knew everyone had one.

The kinect can sense your heartbeat. Imagine a horror game where the game can detect how scared you are and so something to make you shit your pants. That's a loudly example because I can't find the original post about an X1 horror game.but yea.

$ony basically said "Forget innovation all these kids want is a PS3 with better graphics."
