Nintendo loses battle to take control of WiiU.com domain

4.5
Nintendo has lost the fight to gain control over the domain WiiU.com after a complaint was filed back in February.

WiiU.com in all its glory...
The decision was posted to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) website on Saturday, confirming that Nintendo's complaint to gain control of WiiU.com was denied, as reported by Fusible.

The domain has been registered by a company in Burlington, Massachusetts since 2004.

Fusible notes that WiiU.com was put up for auction, yet once Nintendo filed the complaint with WIPO the listing was removed. It appears that Nintendo will have to pay a sizable amount in order to have control of the domain.

WiiU.com is currently a placeholder site containing link to both Wii U and non-WiiU content.

There has been no explanation provided as to why Nintendo lost the case.

lel sucks too because wiiu.com is one of those useless sites

I've never really gotten the point of sites like that. Are they meant to be a placeholder or something?

FPS_Ryan Haha that stinks for Nintendo. How can you operate a business without the website URL of one of your products.

With a different domain? Domains aren't everything...

They need the domain to get recognized lol.

A domain isn't going to help Nintendo get recognized, I'm sure most gamers have heard of Nintendo at least once. The domain would simply be for the Wii U.

The domain is pointless imo.

If they really wanted a domain, they could get like WiiU.net or something along those lines. But then again they don't really need it because the Wii U has it's own section on the Nintendo website.

http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu

That looks good enough to me.

I think that http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu is completely fine. What the console needs is games and not a domain for itself.

I just checked it out and honestly a "Cooking College" tab -_- I mean really, they have the domain wiiu.com and they put some stuff not even related to the Wii U. Oh well I guess, it is the domain owners decision.

RATF nintendo has been going downhill for a long while now

I hope they step up their game soon, I don't want to see this company fail.

Me too, sega went down, I hope that nintendo doesn't go that way

It really looks like they are though...

The Nintendo 3DS is keeping them up for now. They should be fine unless they make another console and it turns into another flop.

They are on thin ice right now.

The 3DS is selling surprisingly well at the moment due to some great games being released, I wouldn't be surprised if i saw a rise in sales when the new pokemon game comes out as well.
