Don Mattrick named Zynga's new CEO

Don Mattrick has been named the new CEO of Zynga, the social games company just announced in a blog post. He starts next week.

"Going forward I'll continue in my role as Chairman and Chief Product Officer," said outgoing CEO Mark Pincus. "I'm excited to partner with Don and the rest of our team to return Zynga to its leadership role in inventing and growing Play as a core human experience."

Before his departure, Mattrick was the president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business, handling products such as the Xbox One. Prior to Microsoft he served as president of worldwide studios at Electronic Arts.

Leaping from the frying pan into the fire, Mattrick will now have to pick up the pieces of Zynga, which has struggled with departures and sweeping layoffs.

That is a really smart business move. Zynga is very successful. It might also tell us what he thinks about xbox one's success.

Starify I have never heard of this company until now. Seems like they won't be around for awhile, and he will probably be crawling back to Microsoft.

Zynga was really popular on Myspace and I think Facebook. I think they have been going under though for what ever reason.

They made FarmVille, of course they're going under!

FarmVille was massive back in the day, the Playerbase declined extremely quickly though. I haven't heard of a popular Zynga game since then

I haven't either....I think the Texas Hold'em poker is made by Zynga

Yeah it is. I play it on my phone. They make a lot game apps.

Me to, they make alot of games for Facebook aswell.

I think they spend too much on making games and don't really see any profits from it. Not many people like playing those type of games anymore and have moved on from it. If they continue to lose people, they will go under.
