id Software co-founder also thinks Xbox One backlash was a "bit of a witch hunt"

PS4 and Xbox One are "essentially the same" in terms of performance, according to id Software co-founder John Carmack.

Speaking during his keynote at QuakeCon 2013 keynote (via Gamasutra), the lead Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Quake programmer said that while he hasn't "done really rigorous benchmarking", he was surprised to find how similar the two new consoles are.

"I haven't done really rigorous benchmarking [but] they're very close and they're both very good," he said.

"It's almost amazing how close they are in capabilities, how common they are."

Carmack went on to say that the initial backlash to Xbox One was "a bit on the side of a witch hunt", adding: "The future is obvious right there, and it will be good for us in general. A lot of these things are inevitable."

Carmack was also critical of Kinect, which he described as "sort of like a zero-button mouse with a lot of latency... Kinect still has some fundamental limitations with the latency and framerate... It's fundamentally a poor interaction."

Xbox One will be available in 21 markets this November. The Xbox One price has been set at £425 / €499 / $499.

Sony has confirmed a "holiday 2013" PS4 release date in Europe and the US and a PS4 price of £349 / €399 / $399.

Yea but some people fail to realize that just because PS has slightly better graphics doesn't mean it will be better. Because graphics for shared titles will be the same.


Exactly! That's why I'm going the Microsoft again. They know what they're doing.

How was that ignorant? It was a better online expereance than the ps3.
So everybody that had an Xbox had more fun online than people with a PS3? NO! I've had tons of fun online with PS3, the connection on PS3 is fine i've played tons of online games for PS3 maybe not as much as the 360 but enough, and the fact that you think "online experience" makes a console 10x better means you should really evaluate your opinions before posting.

I never said PS3 or Sony was better please learn to read all I said was that Xbox was not 10x better it's only a matter of opinion, complete opinion.

PC in some areas are better and some areas it could use some work! But I agree with you on that.

It's honestly not ignorant at all.. The 360 had way better exclusives, and one of my favorites, Gears of War. It's literally the reason I bought my 360. PS3 is so.. bland.. and they didn't have Party Chat, which really sucked. But since Xbox One and the PS3 are so much alike.. I think I'm going to wait a couple months to choose between which one I want. Only thing is, Sony looks like they have better exclusives this time.. which is always good.
