Microsoft will absorb cost to add headset to Xbox One; no price change

4.5
Microsoft's unboxing video of the Xbox One Day One console package today also confirmed for the first time that the company has changed its mind and will indeed add a mono headset to both the Day One and standard editions of the console. Microsoft is currently taking pre-orders for the same headset as a stand alone product for $24.99, which is not an inconsiderable sum.

While Microsoft made no announcements today about a change in price for the Xbox One, we wanted to make sure so we contacted Xbox One's director of product planning Albert Penello via Twitter to find out if adding the headset would also increase the price of the console or if it will add to Microsoft's own manufacturing costs.

As you can see in the response Penello gave neowin, Microsoft will absorb the price of adding the headset and the $499.99 price tag for the Xbox One remains intact:

@JCalNeowin We're paying for that one. No change to the price.

Dini A headset added would be nice, but it's just something that i wouldn't use honestly

You kidding?? How would you not use it unless you have no friends to talk to. Even then, you can talk to people in the pre game lobbies.

They better lol. We are paying so much for it.

I don't understand why they did not make it $19.99 like the current headset is, does it really cost $5 more to make then the current console. I feel like that bottom control section when not in the controller will break really easy.

Utilities
Suck
Mortar It is a shame that the headset is just a re-designed version of the flimsy Xbox 360 headset that came with the console. I would have preferred it to be a wireless earpiece. Enough of my moaning aside, it is great that they added the headset to the consoles for no extra charge.

I would of like a wireless mic, the wired ones always break so easy

The wireless always has static though.

Static? Never heard of it having static and i've had mine for 3 years!

For the price we are paying, I'd expect that to be included.

Well that is good news, no more price bumps.

CYP The mic will only work for a month then you will need to hold it together with duck tape lol

I hope not, They should fix those problems by now?.
