Microsoft will absorb cost to add headset to Xbox One; no price change

4.5
Microsoft's unboxing video of the Xbox One Day One console package today also confirmed for the first time that the company has changed its mind and will indeed add a mono headset to both the Day One and standard editions of the console. Microsoft is currently taking pre-orders for the same headset as a stand alone product for $24.99, which is not an inconsiderable sum.

While Microsoft made no announcements today about a change in price for the Xbox One, we wanted to make sure so we contacted Xbox One's director of product planning Albert Penello via Twitter to find out if adding the headset would also increase the price of the console or if it will add to Microsoft's own manufacturing costs.

As you can see in the response Penello gave neowin, Microsoft will absorb the price of adding the headset and the $499.99 price tag for the Xbox One remains intact:

@JCalNeowin We're paying for that one. No change to the price.

Colourful Wow, why is the input for the mic so big?

I was just thinking that myself

Yes, it looks like garbage.

-LOST- Good, it would be terrible to have to go out and buy a mic after spending 500 on a console.

There will be a purchasable adapter for 360 headsets,

Starify It would be outrageous if the charged more for the mic included. The product is way over priced.

I can only hope that you are not saying that the xbox One is overpriced because it certainly is not. You may pay $500 but you get an amazingly innovative console that can offer you unlimited cloud storage, games, video, and more. To me a price of 500 seems reasonable. Although if they did add an extra 25 for he headset that would be dumb. Considering those headsets are flimsy and cheap.

I'm saying that the Mic is overpriced.

Even though, most of the software in the console is outdated still.

Please tell me you mean hardware... Its software is completely up to date.

Immerse Even though it's nice to have a few free tid bits, I don't think Microsoft will see a huge influx in sales over a headset. But if I do buy the Xbox One, it'll be handy just in-case if my Turtle Beaches break or something of the sort. (Hm, although I can't remember if I read somewhere that the Turtle Beaches will not work with the Xbox One, but I may be thinking of something else.)

I believe their making an adapter for the headsets to work on the xbox one.

Yes, as he's stated they'll have an adapter. It's a good thing too, i've still got a pair of tritton's i've never opened from over a year ago, as well as Turtle Beach's.
