Sony to share 'release plans' for PS4 on August 20th

Sony's August 20 press conference at Gamescom may tell PS4 enthusiasts exactly when they'll be able to shell out $400 for the new console, a post to the European Playstation Blog announced this week.

The update describes the show's content as a briefing on Sony's "release plans for PlayStation 4." Announcements concerning the PS3 and Vita are also planned.

You can start virtually camping out for the conference here, which begins at noon EST. In contrast, Micorosoft has scheduled a keynote led by Corporate VP of Microsoft Phil Spencer. Spencer described its August 20 conference as a "really short" show emphasizing developers and their games, including an exclusive installment to "Europe's biggest franchise."

Unfortunately many people just waited too late to order their next generation console. Makes me glad i got in early

If they wanted to beat the Xbox One they would need to.


They've already beat the Xbox One simply because the Xbox One goofed with putting in the drm/kinect requirement when they first announced it.

As I stated in an earlier comment, they have everything from better online service, to a cheaper price and slightly better hardware, as well as more care for their exclusives.

I'm not bias at all, I'm actually a PC gamer and I used to play 360 daily, but still, PS4 looks a lot more promising than the Xbox One.


I agree with your comment for the most part but a better online service? Unless they do some drastic updating I highly doubt the online service has gotten much better. The PS3 didn't even have party chat which they finally now have on the PS4. Online was garbage on the PS3. Besides Halo the exclusives on the PS3 are much better though. Also with the PS4 being cheaper is definitely an advantage. But even with that the PS4 does not have the cloud and and the 300,000 online servers. So unless they start investing towards those I don't see them beating the Xbox's online.


omg are people this dumb? every electronic device in 2013 has the ability to do cloud computing. 300k servers doesnt really mean much each individual will have their own speeds one is not slower than the other. im buying both so i don't really care about cloud servers.

God be with you, if they are already not taking pre orders anymore in fear of a shortage and it's only August... You see where I'm going with that, unless you get incredibly lucky and find a place that is still taking pre orders you can make it happen (I wouldn't stop looking and check smaller stores or maybe a gamestop in small town) otherwise I would not get my hopes up for getting it on release.

If it makes you feel better I already have mine payed off! :D

They actually area adding their own cloud, even if they didn't I would hardly consider that a deal breaker for someone who is buying their next console for the "gaming" experience. They are also adding a lot of servers themselves hence having to pay for ps+ for multiplayer games. Finally if you want to talk about exclusive, the only hope that xbox has is their new exclusives. I'm sorry but Halo 4 was terrible compared to it's predecessors, 343 ruined the series. I also find it funny/awesome that Bungie signed a long term contract to give PS4 players quite a few exclusives for Destiny and I'm not talking about timed exclusives...
