Titanfall will not have microtransactions, says Respawn

Microtransactions have run amok at gamescom, but here’s some good news, as Titanfall developers Respawn have stated quite categorically that that business model just isn’t for them.

Respawn community manager Abbie Heppe spoke to VideoGamer and had a simple answer to the microtransaction question: “That’s not us.”

At the moment the team is focusing on getting the game out before considering where they might take it in the future. Although it seems likely, there aren’t any plans in place just yet to turn Titanfall into a franchise.

Heppe also didn’t rule out the possibility of additional content later in the game’s lifespan, but maintained that these will not be delivered through microtransactions.

This is good news. During gamescom it’s been announced that Battlefield 4, Ryse: Son of Rome, The Elder Scrolls Online, and many other games will include microtransactions.

Titanfall launches on Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC next Spring.

Microtransactions means paying for additional content that you can usually get for free. It is pretty much a scam. Games without this are always better.


games without micro transactions are always better? lets take black ops 2 for example. that game contains micro transactions and has sold over 25 million copies.

Nov This might be the Call of Duty killer. Maybe not the first game, but gradually I think it will outdo Call of Duty down the road. Yes, Ghosts looks awesome and innovative, but there still is only so much that Call of Duty hasn't done. Can't wait for Titanfall.


The only game I think that will be the Call of Duty killer is either Battlefield 4 of GTA 5.
Those two seem the only prime games to take down Cod.


Yet, I don't see either beating Call of Duty, at least not Ghosts.

I think battlefield will takeover eventually. Cod comes out every year unlike battlefield but I think battlefield is always better. Now with the new dynamic events
