Sony takes responsibility for GTA5 leaks, Rockstar responds

The leak of gameplay and story details concerning Grand Theft Auto 5 stemmed from a file in the European PlayStation Store's digital pre-order download of the game, Sony and Rockstar announcements revealed yesterday.

PlayStation Social Media Manager Sid Shuman stated that the pre-order file has since been removed and apologized to "Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content."

Rockstar's statement on a Rockstar Newswire post explained it was "deeply disappointed by leaks and spoilers being spread in advance of the game's launch. GTA5 represents years of hard work by many people across the world, and we all couldn't be more excited to finally share it with you properly this September 17."

Rockstar also took the opportunity to remind Social Club community members that anyone discussing spoilers or misinformation would "have commenting privileges revoked until well after the game's release." It's nice to see Rockstar committing to providing a spoiler-free place to anticipate GTA5, but we all know how the internet handles popular media. If you're hoping to keep the game's surprises intact, consider avoiding social media until the game's September 17 release.

It effected rockstar, the company who made the game though. They worked really hard on GTA5 only to have it leaked early.

I've never hated Sony, but for them to do something like this to another developers game, makes me not like them to say the least/


It was a really bad move from Sony. I bet they have lost a lot of popularity because of this leak

Yes it is, Sony allowed users to preload the game early. Some users then decoded the security, and got access to the files. Same thing would have happened if xbox allowed users to preload.


No it's not. Sony screwed up big time. In my opinion they should have to compensate Rockstar and I can see Rockstar favouriting Microsoft from here on out. They weren't aloud to leak/release anything. Why do you think they apologized?


your stupid read what happened "pre-load" that is what happend and sony cant do anything about it. all hyped games get leaked just like every call of duty in history, it was bound to happen you just wanna throw more dirt on sonys name every chance you microsoft fans get. atleast sony apoligized microsoft wouldnt have given a Shart so stfu and keep it moving its up to us as people not to do stuff like this.

It's sad when users want to decode a security wall for a game and get spoilers. Why not wait like the rest of the world?

As for the heated argument below, Micr$oft doesn't allow pre-loads which in turn cause anyone who want to buy this game or any game from Games on Demand argument invalid. At least Sony is a good guy here and allows for pre-loads of games so that day-one, minute-one games are available rather than lengthy store lines and possible scratched disks.
