PlayStation 4 will download remote purchases automatically

PlayStation 4 will download remote purchases made via smartphone or desktop PCs automatically, a Sony exec has confirmed.

Any purchase made remotely will awaken the PS4 from its sleep mode. The item will download, then the console will return to its sleep state.

The news comes via Sony president of worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida, who confirmed the functionality on Twitter.

"When you buy a PS4 game on smartphone, it will wake your PS4 up to start downloading the game. PS4 goes back to sleep after that," Yoshida Tweeted.

Similar functionality is in place for the PS3 and Vita, however items are only added to a download queue. A user is required to commence the download once they're using the console.

With the PS4, a game can be purchased, downloaded and installed remotely.

PS4 will release November 15 in the US and November 29 in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara said last week that the company is struggling to satisfy pre-orders, claiming that the PS4 is heading for a "sell-out situation".

pretty cool idea. i think all you people complaining about it being bad because they can turn on the console are just paranoid.

this would be a good addition to the xbox.

LOL someone with as low security as Sony have the power to turn u console on from sleep. What happenns when and if they get hacked again
I prefer how the 360 worked it starts dl as soon as you turn the machine on

Pretty valid point but i couldn't really see Sony doing it. Sony could have also been doing it with the PS3 and we never would of knew..

It will be really handy to be able to download remotely. A great feature to an already great console

No they do not, this is scary and people already thought the One is a spytool, Sony can turn on your console and turn it off at their leisure..

That's what I was thinking, if they can do this what else can they do with it?
