Microsoft: Xbox One is worth $100 more than PlayStation 4

Xbox director says company is not stressing over being the most expensive console this holiday season; "I just believe that we're going to have a better system," says Albert Penello.

The Xbox One will be $100 more than the PlayStation 4 and $200 more than the Wii U this holiday season, but Microsoft is not stressing over its stance as the most expensive console.


"It’s up to us to prove that it’s worth $100 more. I think it is," senior director of product planning and management at Xbox Albert Penello told GameSpot today at PAX Prime in Seattle, Washington.

Penello said the suite of games and services Microsoft is offering with the Xbox One is stronger than the competition.

"I think we do more. I think our games are better. I think as people start to experience Kinect and see what it can do using voice, I think that’s better," he added. "I think the ability to have an all-in-one system where you can plug in the TV, that’s better. I think we’ll have a better online service."

"I just believe that we’re going to have a better system."

Ultimately, consumers want to buy the "best thing," Penello said. The Xbox One's stance as the most premium console this holiday season won't hold it back, he argued.

"$100, when you’re talking $400 vs. $500 [shrugs shoulders]. I don’t believe it’s going to be the deal-killer," he said.

The Xbox One launches in November for $500.

Microsofts problem, is and always will be that they are pushing it as a media centre first, gaming console second. I've owned all the consoles over the years including gaming PCs. But if I was going to spend $500 I would just build a real media centre PC capable more than what you are limited to by the XB1.

Kinnect is a gimmick just like the gimmick of 3D films and TV its just not for everyone - I just hoped it would die out quicker as Microsoft are trying to create problems that are not even there by all these claims with Kinnects benefit. As MS policies changed once about the DRM, there is nothing stopping them from changing it again in the future they simply changed because they were losing out to the competition and saw that Sony had the upperhand, and Sony took advantage of that.

If and when I ever get another console, It would be the Ps4 for the simple fact is that its for gaming, has massive Indie dev support with self publishing. Console exclusive games have never made me feel the need to go out and buy a console just for a specific game.

Lets just hope that the Kinect actually serves a purpose with the Xbox One, i don't want it to be completely useless just like the Xbox 360 version.

See i like playing games on the xbox don't get me wrong. But the console itself is really terrible. My xbox elite is almost 4 years old and it has had so many problems. Not only that but i've gone through 3 wired mics and 3 controllers. My ps3 is almost 5 years old and it still works well. Also i still have a mic (even though the battery died from never charging lel). and i've never bought any extra controllers. also my ps3 has never **** up my disc with scratches.

yeah thanks MS for telling us not to move the xbox when playing a game. like we knew that would happen after owning the console for an hour. as for PC i have nothing against it but the whole "pc master race" thing is pretty much the most stubborn thing ever.


Don't compare Xbox 360 to the Xbox One, Microsoft is trying hard to make this system good and you people need to stop hating the console, people who play Playstation think they are for the win because Sony has more experience in making game consoles, they might but look at Nintendo more experience then Microsoft and Sony and they suck now, Microsoft makes computers, they know what to put in a console, Sony makes tv's they know how to make video, enough said.


Why shouldn't we compare? Microsoft had all the tools to make the X1 a completely new system ( sort of). They chose to go back on pretty much everything instead. So essentially the X1 IS just an upgraded 360 and not a new console. Since when did ms make computers?

btw Microsoft doesn't make computers they make the windows OS and of course the xbox. Sony doesn't just make tv's they make a wide variety of things.
