Xbox One: external storage won’t be supported at launch

4.6
Xbox One will not allow you to add external storage for games or media installs at launch, Microsoft has confirmed.

The news comes from the latest Major Nelson podcast. Answering a fan question at PAX about the feature, he said: “The future plan is for definitely to support external storage much like we do on the Xbox 360.

“My understanding is that feature will not be there at launch because the team is working on some other things, but it definitely is on the list. I don’t know when it will come in though.”

Xbox One will ship with a 500Gb internal hard drive, and it was confirmed back in May that users can’t replace the internal drive.

Sony has said it will allow users to change their internal PS4 hard drives come launch.

The internal hard drive capacity is more than enough to start with. I they're just taking extra precautions against things like the XKey, making sure that people can't mess with the console ect.

I think that 500gb is more than enough for a while

570 Hmm.. sounds like this will most likely turn into a problem..

I don't see why, 500GB is alot of space, they could probably improve it by a bit more.

Daw I think 500GB is enough storage. A bit extra if you ask me.

For most people it will be alright for the first year or so, but people who are really big on downloading games may manage to fill it up.

Yes true. I personally just buy the disc to save space.

Same, I hardly ever download a full game on my xbox.

You'd have to download quite a lot of games/DLC to fill it up, even with the next gen games taking up a lot of memory.

500GB's is plenty enough, well atleast for the first few years of the Xbox Ones life.

There wouldn't really be a point in putting external hardrives for the Xbox One on the market right a way anyways, I don't think anyone would buy one considering how much space the internal hardrive has.

They say "at launch" because they will release new external and exclusive HDD's next year

-Ghosty Bad move on MS, a lot of people like to use PC external HDD's because they are affordable and efficient.

Exactly what I was gonna say, but yeah it is a bad move, might even lose some buyers.
