PlayStation 4 will support four controllers

PlayStation 4 will support four controllers - three less than the PS3.

SCE Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the news on Twitter earlier today, specifying that the console will support four controllers at once.

This is down from the seven supported by PS3, and follows news earlier this week that the Xbox One will support eight controllers concurrently.

Yoshida didn't elaborate on the reduction, though very few PS3 games have taken advantage of the system's seven controller support.

According to CVG sources, Sony will reveal a PlayStation-branded virtual reality head-mounted display at the Tokyo Game Show later this month, where it will also show more than 50 games.

Meanwhile, Sony has confirmed the PS4 will support voice navigation and facial recognition via the PlayStation Eye.

PS4 will release November 15 in the US and November 29 in Europe and Australia.

I don't get why PS3 downgraded the amount of controllers it supported but to me what is the point of having more than 4 players? Actually what is the point in more than 2? The screen becomes way to small and you cant play any games online with more than 2 people so why have more than 4

slapshot101 I always thought that 7 controllers was a really weird number. I think that this won't effect much for people because nobody would use or buy 8 controllers and no games support them. We will have to see if any Xbox games take advantage of their 8 controllers.


Nba ,Fifa,Madden?Im pretty sure gaming companies will be happy about this feature and so will the supporter.I myself am glad to see that more than 4 people can play.Now if only the wii can do this super smash bro's would be 2x the fun

I would rather be able to play with 8 of my friends than just four. It makes games way more fun, plus you don't need to take turns ever again. People that say 8 is a waste probably doesn't have any friends and just plays by himself. Microsoft has done an amazing job and deserves a lot of credit for doing this.

the 8 contorllers.might not be good for some games but in other hand im at college and Iwould sure love to play nba2k or madden or fifa with 8 teamates or 4v4 on one screen thatd be awsome

Most of the time, if people go to your home to play they bring their own controllers. But regardless people do have spares.
