GTA V copies sold early, Rockstar 'investigating'

Copies of Grand Theft Auto V have been shipped to gamers this weekend, breaking Rockstar's September 17 street date.

The early copies were allegedly shipped by online retail giant Amazon, according to pictures of the game that have been posted online on Saturday.

It is not unusual for Amazon to ship games just ahead of their release dates to ensure their arrival on the release date itself. In this case, copies of GTA V appear to have turned up in customers' mailboxes four days early.

Rockstar has said it's investigating. "We are in the process of investigating early 'sales' to determine how and why that is occurring," the publisher told Games Industry.

Sony confirmed earlier today that pre-loading of the PS3 Grand Theft Auto 5 through the PlayStation Network has been delayed until September 16.

The delay follows the leak of GTA 5 details through a PlayStation Store error. In August gamers who pre-ordered the game via the EU PlayStation Store were apparently accidentally given access to files that revealed game details, which were inevitably posted online.

Rockstar has confirmed a US and European GTA 5 release date of September 17 on Xbox 360 and PS3. The game will launch in Japan on October 10.

Gotta_Have_It I don't really see the problem, Amazon ship items out to get there on time, but they are usually quick so they arrive early. Its up to the customers to not play the game.


Because we all know you won't play GTA V once it arrives haha, they should ship the games later.

completely agree haha! ive preordered all my games from amazon for the last few years and not one of them has came on time, theyve always been at least a day late! and now the one time i dont pre order with them they send it out early!

That is why I would never pre order online even if the game came a few days early.
I agree. They just told me my game won't be arriving until the 20th so I just cancelled...


I have ordered 3 games off Amazon: Gears of War 3(Came Late), FIFA 13 (Again, Came late) and now I've ordered GTA V hopefully this comes on time. :S

Actually, Amazon always send out pre-orders early and I can tell you that with first hand experience having worked within one of amazons largest warehouses to date.

What really happens is amazon sends it out to the local or closest mail sorting office. Who then delivers it to you, the reason it's late lies at their fault. Amazon is just a retailer and I can tell you now when you order something within hours it's already been picked from the sorting area, yes it's called sorting and makes it's way to packing which moves down the belt to shipping. No word of a lie and seeing as this isn't even one of amazons 3 situated peak times then you can bet people, alot of people will be getting games early.
