GTA V 'crash errors' reported on older Xbox 360 consoles

4.5
Owners of older Xbox 360 consoles are reporting freeze and crashing errors when playing Grand Theft Auto V.

According to a number of members of unofficial forum GTAforums (via Kotaku), the problems usually occur during the first driving section of GTAV featuring Franklin.

It appears the vast majority of complaints are being made by players with consoles manufactured or refurbished between 2006 and 2008.

"Once the driving portion of Franklin's first mission starts, the game randomly freezes, forcing me to reboot the Xbox," the first complaint reads.

"There is no precursor for the game locking up, it appears to happen completely randomly and at different times during the mission. It has locked up on me early in the mission when Franklin's buddy calls up on the cell phone just after the driving starts. It has locked up during the second portion of the driving mission when the cops are chasing. I'm not sure what to do."

Later, the user reported that he had contacted Rockstar technical support with the issue and was told that "they are still in the process of gathering data and trying to determine if this is something that is patchable".

Until then, another forum user received this advice from Xbox technical support, and claims it solved the problem for them.

1. Delete all GTAV game data.
2. Clear system cache three times.
3. Delete marketplace data from storage system items.
4. Unplug console for three minutes.
5. Install disc 1.
6. Power off, do not insert disc 2.
7. Restart.
8. Install disc 2.
9. Play.

This would not surprise me as the graphic intensity must be great on the older 360's I don't really know much about that type of thing but I think that it must put a strain on them.

-Naked- I'd have to delete my save files too? This is happening to me too, it's pretty annoying..

I think you'll have to delete it yes, I wouldn't delete it just yet, I'd just wait for the fix.

Luckily I have a PS3 and I didn't have problems with my disc, yet.

Its happening on my newer Xbox.

Even though I have had this one for 3 years almost.

Haven't had any issues with it myself,I'm running it from the disc as Rockstar recommended but on the newer console model (xbox). And why are Xbox technical support saying to Install Disc 2, when its actually supposed to alter the performance of the game, NOT fix it! to be honest i think people are bound to get some difficulty's with it given the hardware its running on.
