PS4 won’t support voice chat via existing headsets

4.4
Existing Bluetooth headsets won’t work with the PlayStation 4, apparently, and even USB jobbies won’t be compatible until after launch.

The news comes via GameInformer, which received its information directly from Sony. According to the platform holder, existing headsets just won’t work for voice chat on the PS4 – not even the Sony Pulse or official PS3 accessories.

A system update issued sometime after the PS4′s launch will make it compatible with current USB headsets, but existing Bluetooth headsets are not supported at all.

Presumably, new, PS4-friendly first- and third-party headsets will be released at or close to the console’s launch – but that’s no comfort for those who’ve recently splashed out on a new headset that won’t work with their new hardware.

It’s worth noting that the PS4 comes bundled with a mono headset, so you won’t be left with no option for voice chat at all.

The PS4 launches in November.

Yes it does, MS is making an adaptor.

Does the xbox have Bluetooth headsets? Does it even have headset that doesn't require an adapter or receiver to be plugged in? This is for the official Bluetooth headset, that's it. If it has a USB receiver you're safe.

Here is how it is. Xbox One headsets and Ps4 headsets will work if they have a 7.1 Dolby Digital Output to plug into the consoles. Neither of them will support chat on the current gen headsets. So here is the difference, with the Xbox one you can buy an adapter right after the console is released to be able to chat with players, whereas the Ps4 you can't chat until they release an update for it which they said will be in the future.

Island-Time We received a note from Astro Gaming (whom we've recently spoken with about next-gen audio) indicating that their headsets will work for chat on the PlayStation 4 just not right away. This prompted us to dig a little deeper and find out what gaming headset owners can expect on November 15.

The answer we received from Sony is complicated. If you have a Sony-branded PULSE gaming headset (or the elite edition of that product), you will need to wait for a system update coming in the future. It seems that those will not work at all at launch.

Any other headset that relies on bluetooth for chat will not work at all. If you have something that relies on USB for chat (like the Astro mixamps and Astro A50 wireless system), you'll eventually be able to use those. An update will be coming in the future.

Any headset that relies on digital optical for game audio will continue to provide that out of the box. You just won't be able to chat yet.

I beg to differ, the most expensive thing someone might buy is Astros which are only like 300$
