Activision wants GTA 5's sales record back

Activision hopes to reclaim the record for the biggest video game launch in history before the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

The record was held by the publisher's Call of Duty series prior to the release of Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 5 last month.

GTA 5 generated $1 billion in global retail sales in just three days. In the UK, it has already surpassed sales of former record breaker Call of Duty Black Ops 2 and should overtake FIFA 13's lifetime sales total in a matter of days, MCV reports.

Activision UK senior brand manager Kevin Flynn told the site: "Congratulations to the team at Rockstar for their success. We look forward to getting the record back before the next GTA title."

In early September, prior to GTA 5's release, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg told CVG there's room for both Rockstar's game and Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Ghosts to succeed this year.

"Obviously, [GTA] is a hugely successful franchise, and I get asked about our big competitors every year," he said. "We're always up against iconic titles, and I know people like to tell a clash-of-the-titans story, but I feel there's lots of evidence that there's room for more than one successful game, and indeed more than one successful blockbuster. And if people only have money for a few games, I like our chances that Call of Duty will be one of them."

Activision has confirmed a Call of Duty: Ghosts release date of November 5 on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC. The game will also be a launch title on Xbox One and PS4 later in the month.

n its not hard to pass up didnt even pre-order it and it comes out in less than one month


You will get it. We all do! I only get it to play with friends but gawd the game sucks

I think 2 of the best games of the year will be Battlefield 4 and Grand Theft Auto V. Just my opinion.

TTGNaviLlusShore oh and am i the only one who thing GTA V isnt as great as people say it is? its basically the same thing as GTA IV but with better graphics and some extra features and gamemodes in multiplayer plus a new campaign story, i personally dont think it deserved 7 records granted its fun but not that fun

Antonio_Cesaro yay another 5 crap of duty games, which i wont buy. because its the same old shiat every single time. i wont support those money biatches, but there are enough of little kids who think that they're the bosses because they get once in a lifetime a nuke. and going to buy this game year after year and they never realise that nothing changes expect crap maps and weapons.


actually ghost has quite a few changes from the previous call of duty's and they are continuing to change, they even said they were going for a more "fun" feel instead of competitive tryhard feel, not saying thats what will happen but i personally am looking forward to ghosts from what im hearing about it, don't judge a game before it releases this might be the best cod since mw2 "might" be

No just no. I am sorry but GTA 5 quadruples the features it had in GTA IV vs most call of duty only adding about 20% new stuff 10% of which is the UI.

I don't think many people understand how call of duty is the joke of the hardcore gaming community. You can deny it all you want but it is true. When I am talking about hardcore gamers I am referring to people that play multiple genres and games and have played many games on the Xbox, PS, whatever Nintendo has, and PC. Most of these gamers are older and see Call of Duty as what little kids play and the casual gamers and the casuals that think they are hardcore.
