Analyst: Xbox One will outsell PlayStation 4 at launch

The Xbox One will enjoy higher launch window sales than the PlayStation 4, opines Colin Sebastian of Baird Research.

"While many forecasts still give an edge to Sony/PS4 in North America sales, we continue to expect similar or even slightly higher sales of Xbox One by the end of the launch window," Sebastian told investors.

The conjecture is backed up by data from eBay listings, which shows Xbox One mark-ups 60 percent north of the console's $500 price tag whilst those of PS4 are just a tick lower at roughly 50 percent more than its respective $400 asking price.

The analyst divines the platform holders will collectively move between 5 million and 6 million units globally by the end of the year. The soothsayer also foretells retailers will have a hard time keeping stock on shelves.

"Retailers in our checks indicate there is consumer demand well in excess of supply, as evidenced by fast sell-outs of incremental unit allotments, such as at GameStop," Sebastian noted.

gtapro151 funny they said the exact same thing about ps4 when microsoft had the drm policys...o thats right they chickened out. Seriously though Microsoft is handing out money left and right for exclusive map packs and other dlc and games so Xbox probably will sell more since they cant rely on there hardware they know its inferior to ps4 so they hand out cash for software lol.


u make it sound like the ps4 is light years ahead of xbox in the hardware department

its stupid on Sony part not to make exclusive deals like MSOFT is doing....if Sony did that, their sales would increase

PS4 will be no better than the PS3, Microsoft continue to provide for the community, Xbox is not just a gaming console anymore, It's an Entertainment system. whilst on the other hand, Sony.. PS4 is practically the PS3 with better graphics.

true,i think one of the reasons people prefer it is because it does so much more and its the competetive console (heard ps4 is goin for a competetive scene this time)

McCutchen I kind of figured at launch that the Xbox One would sell more. You hear more about it than the PS4, it was advertised way more.

You don't have to use the Kinect. It is not required. Honestly though, I am excited for all the new, neat features the Kinect makes possible. Plus, look at what a quality HD digital camera usually costs in stores. Then, add the fact that the Kinect can track motion, read which muscles you are utilizing and how much strain they are under, read your heart rate, read your expressions and derive your emotional response to external stimuli based on muscular movements and twitches in your face, recognize your face and voice and automatically associate them with your profile, recognize and take commands from more than one voice at a time, and a slew of other features I didn't even mention. How much do you think that HD digital camera would cost sitting on the shelf at Best Buy? I bet it would cost a great deal more than $100. The Kinect costs us $100. Recognize a good deal when you see one.


Because any game that you play will utilize those features? The kinect will collect dust unless MS forces developers to make games that doesn't require controllers. Thus the kinect isn't a great deal. It's wasting money. Why buy a HD digital camera when you won't use it?
