PlayStation 4 will not support CDs, mp3s or PC media streaming

PlayStation 4 will not play audio CDs and does not support mp3 playback, Sony has confirmed.

While every past Sony console has supported audio CD playback, the PS4 will not. Those who wish to select their own music during games will need to use Sony's Music Unlimited streaming service.

Meanwhile, mp3 files will not be supported on the PlayStation 4, and nor will it support media servers or DLNA support, allowing media streaming from a PC.

Despite these announcements and the numerous customer complaints that have followed, comments made by Sony worldwide studios president Shuhei Yoshida on Twitter suggest the company is open to feedback.

"Thanks for the feedback to the lack of MP3 and DLNA support at the launch of PS4," Yoshida wrote. "I'll share with the PS4 Dev team for future consideration."

The news comes via a lengthy FAQ which addresses every facet of the PS4.

The console will release November 29 in Europe and Australia, and November 15 in North America.

FibreOp Well its not, as you can see. You might as well switch to Microsoft and get it over with.
ArmoredHazmat You clearly don't get it. I don't want my headphones on under of my headset, or have my MacBook Pro blasting my music. So like i said before this is basic technology, it should be in the console.

FibreOp Like I said before, you can do that on your mobile device or computer. You don't have to use the PSN Music as you already paid for your sh!t. Nuff said. If you don't have a computer or mobile device then you should commit suicide already...

ArmoredHazmat This is basic technology, it should be in the console, I don't wanna pay to listen to my music i've already paid for! I have cloud storage meant for steaming screw paying for that service!

FibreOp Eh, doesn't really matter to me. People can play music on their mobile devices or PC's. Its a gaming console, not an MP3 player but I guess you should expect kids to rage.

You do realise that you won't even be able to stream movies or music from your PC to your PS4 console with this.

It's fine if you mention music going completely digital, but as soon as you mention games, everyone goes nuts.

Doesn't really bother me that much most of my music is playing off of my iPod or PC.

Most of the music now and days is on Apple products. Personally I have no problem when it comes to not being able to play audio CD on a PS4.

Not particularly bothered by the audio CDs or PC streaming, audio CDs are becoming outdated & I never really bother with PC streaming.

However, the lack of MP3 support is a little frustrating. It's an extremely common file format and I'm sure I'm not the only one who plays music through my PS3.

Very sad about the media streaming, I loved streaming movies on to my ps3 when my computer was in the other room.
