Xbox One: free game for those affected by hardware issues

Microsoft will give a free digital game to those whose Xbox One has gone on the blink,, allowing them to get some gaming in even without a functioning optical drive.

The news comes via an email from a Microsoft support representative published by Polygon.

“While a replacement console is on its way, we want to ensure our advance exchange customers can stay in the game. We will provide each of them with a free digital download of one of the launch titles published by Microsoft Studios,” the representative said.

Xbox One digital launch titles include Zoo Tycoon, Powerstar Golf, and Kinect Sports Rivals.

Microsoft has confirmed that a very small number of Xbox One units are experiencing hardware problems related to the optical drive, and promised to “take care” of those affected.

If there going to give free games to those affected by the issues they could have given them better games other then games for a 5 year old for god sake.

It is great of Microsoft to do this, but unfortunately the choice of games do seem pretty poor.

I thought it was a pretty good decision for them to make myself. It's great to see Microsoft doing something like this

At least Sony is trying to keep up by replacing all the bricked or defective consoles.


Yeah, it's good to see that they are doing that at least.

I honestly never heard of this issue.


It was UK amazon that got this problem.


Hmm that is why then, I heard of a lot of problems with it though.
