Teen pays $735 for photo of Xbox One on eBay
There was one big red flag on the listing. The description noted the item up for auction was a photo. However, since it was listed in the consoles category and the seller had good feedback, Clatworthy went ahead with the purchase. "It said 'photo' and I was in two minds, but I looked at the description and the fact it was in the right category made me think it was genuine," he explained to the Nottingham Post.
Clatworthy's package showed up looking a lot flatter and smaller than he expected. It was, indeed, merely a photo of a Day One Xbox with the words, "Thank you for your purchase" written on the back.
To add insult to injury, the photo wasn't even of a high quality. It looks to have been printed off from an inkjet with failing cartridges. Definitely not suitable for framing.
All is not lost. Clatworthy is working with eBay to get his money back. He has been told he will get a full refund due to the misleading nature of the listing.
A look at completed listings on eBay UK shows several listings with 450 pound ($735) buy-it-now prices with the title "Xbox One Fifa 14 Day One Edition, Photo Brand New UK 2013." The links to the actual listings and descriptions are no longer active.
Clatworthy's disappointing experience should stand as another eBay cautionary tale about reading the fine print and being wary of deals that seem too good to be true, but it's hard to blame him for trying to make his Xbox dreams come true. A quick question asking for clarification might have saved some grief, but the scummy seller is really the heart of the problem.

ODST Just FYI to anyone that also reads this article, This is a 19 year old guy who has a 4 year old son. Having a child at 15 was his first mistake but now he has made another big screw up. I don't blame the guy for being mad but at the same time, I'm guessing this person has a very low IQ.
Having a kid literally has NOTHING to do with a low IQ.

I've seen something very similar happen on a show called Judge Judy, a woman and her daughter bought pictures of cellphones for $300. They ended up getting their money back from the scammer in court.
Anyways this is ridiculous, eBay needs to monitor their website a bit better.

For one i'm proud of the guy for even making the effort to try save up and buy his son an xbox. Most teen fathers aren't willing to do that.
Secondly eBay is flooded with these atrocious posts of photos and boxes, and their main intention is to rip someone off. Who even starts the bid for a photo or a box at $400. It's in the right category and the intentions are purely evil, eBay needs to start making sure these posts are taken off and users are penalised before more people make the mistake of purchasing like they have in the past.

Georgasm-OH-NO- And this is why i stay on amazon...
Amazon isn't guaranteed to be safe, anyone can sell on there, just like eBay.
True, but you have buyer protection and 45 days after the initial purchase to receive your money back.

Very unfortunate. I assume he will get a refund though. Tricking people for easy money is not cool, nor should it be allowed (since there are always a ton of listings of packaging or photos with a high price.) I am guessing the guy needed money for a new printer and/or ink cartridges though. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Dreams-Zodiac It's good that he got his money back. I'd be pretty pissed if I got scammed and got no refund.
he wasnt scammed the listing told him it was a picture and thats what he got granted the guy that was selling this was trying to pull a fast one hoping nobody would read it but in no way was it a scam
It is a scam, a scam is anything that is misleading or fraudulent. The listing was posted on Game Consoles, the listing said Photo, it was in no way a game console therefor posted in the wrong section and the intention to trick someone and buying something completely irrelevant. Just because you have a "younger" way of thinking doesn't automatically make you right. It was a scam simple as that.

personally sounds like a bit of BS.
He knew it didn't sound right, knew it said photo and couldn't be assed to ask any questions. Bur what better way to bring attention to the fact you cant get an Xbone that buy a photo of one.
Now he will have all the do gooder's saying oh that poor man and some snapper head will come to the rescue and provide him with one.
cynical maybe, but it happens all to regularly these days.
