Xbox One hard drive becomes full at 362 GB

4.8
When Microsoft launched the Xbox One in November, it did so without a way for their owners to find out how much free space was left on their 500 GB hard drive. At the time, Microsoft said that storage management was "automatic", adding, "By being smart about how storage is managed, Xbox One keeps everyone playing, watching, and sharing their entertainment content rather than worry about limitations."

Well, as it turns out it is possible to max out the available storage on an Xbox One if you install enough games and apps on its hard drive. IGN posted up a video that shows the maximum amount of available space on the drive for users is about 362 GB or so.

That limit was reached after installing 20 of the Xbox One's 23 launch titles. In a statement sent to IGN, Microsoft said the rest of the 500 GB space is used for the OS and the first party apps that are already available on the console.

While most people won't be buying and installing all of the Xbox One's launch games, the hard drive space issue will become a problem down the road as more and more games for the console are released. Microsoft has promised that it will update the console to accept external hard drives but so far there's no word on when that will be released.

Honk 20 games is still a lot I have only installed 3

Yea same here lol. It would still take a while to install 362GB of games.

The console has been out for a month and you have 3/20 games. Generations last upwards of 6 years. Tough choices down the road.

Yes and if you read further on in the article "Microsoft has promised that it will update the console to accept external hard drives but so far there's no word on when that will be released." That will most likely be long before most people have 20 games installed on their console.

And it's not like you're going to be playing all 20 games so you can uninstall games when you don't play them anymore.. Common sense.

just some playstation fanboy guys. dont waste any time on him. we all know that 300+ gb is easily enough. especially if you just use hard copies of games instead of downloading them all.

Really? It's not like the hard copies of the game need to be installed also. Both makers made the mistake of supplying a 500GB HDD with their machines. It should be around 750 GB. I personally prefer to download all my games. I don't want to uninstall games that I may replay later. I'm not going to wait to re-download games either. The best part of it all is if you want to upgrade the HDD you have to pay double or sometimes triple the cost of that HDD. So you can say all the shit you want about PlayStation4 and me being a PS4 "fanboy" but even if I run out of space can easily swap it out. So stfu because you don't know what your talking about.

Actual partitions & sizes for the peeps that are sceptical.

Partition 1: Temp Content: 44 GB capacity.
Partition 2: User Content: 391.9 GB capacity.
Partition 3: System Support: 42.9 GB capacity.
Partition 4: System Update: 12.8 GB capacity.
Partition 5: System Update 2: 7.52 GB capacity.

Also the system automatically manages storage, so users need not worry about space.

The system removes the least played game when trying to install a new one if the storage is nearly/full.
Also saves are stored in the cloud storage, only recently used games are stored locally.

TwoTopKing That's proper crap! For the bigger gamers this is crazy....SCAM

How is this a scam? You clearly don't know what a scam is

Well saying it has 500GB when it really only have 360GB...

Lol I don't think you know what you are talking about. It has a 500 gb hard drive, but they can just install everything to the console without storage. to be honest I'm surprised they manages to still have 360. I'm sure ps4's doesn't have EXACTLY how much they say it is.
