Titanfall has been tough to market due to lack of single-player

4.5
Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment, has had a rough time of accurately marketing the shooter, given its lack of single-player mode. That’s the claim of producer Drew McCoy, who recently shed some new light on the matter.

It follows uproar around Titanfall’s 12 player cap, something we felt was nothing to worry about.

Now, in a post on NeoGAF, McCoy wrote, “Its actually been really tough trying to accurately market Titanfall. If you look at what we’ve done, its a lot different than what most FPS games do. Without a bunch of highly scripted SP moments to recam from different angles, the usual ‘movie like’ trailer is just about right out.

“Instead, we’ve decided to show unedited gameplay segments that last 3-5 minutes (so far – more footage coming, of course!) to show the “flow” of the game. Starting as a Pilot, taking on AI and other player Pilots, wall running around a Titan, earning your Titan, climbing in, battling other Titans while stomping on humans, ejecting, etc. There’s a huge amount of gameplay mechanics available at any one time, and encompassing them in a few minutes is actually quite hard to do.

“Its also why we took an extremely early pre-alpha build of the game to events like Gamescom, PAX, etc. to let normal dudes hands-on time with the game. There’s no amount of polished marketing that can replace playing the actual game.”

On the whole player count thing, McCoy replied to one forum member, “What about high player counts makes that more fun, though? I honestly want to know, because this kind of stuff is super important and we obsess over it every day.”

I mainly purchase games for the multi-player but there are still a good number of people out there that only play single-player so this will definitely affect the sales for this game.

Since all of their attention is focused on one thing (multiplayer) I think it's going to be very well built.

I only get games for their multiplayer anyway, so this is pretty cool.

lol I'm actually glad that is doesnt have a singleplayer. to many shooters now days try to just throw in a singleplayer and not focus 100% on multiplayer...*cough* Battlefield 4 *cough*

Craigyy WHAT............No Single Player mode? Are they mad?

Now this game can get off my want list. Bad move...Very bad move.

It's been common knowledge for a while now.

Plenty of games have loose story driven co-op so why not full blown multiplayer? Don't knock it till you've tried it.

I always liked a good single player, they better have an outstanding multiplier since they obviously put a lot of time into it.

With the amount of hype this game has, a single player would surely get it more sales. I don't know if there is no single player, but having a multiplayer-only game must suck when you have to pay for online service.

Doesn't really matter to me if the game doesn't have story mode because I never played most campaigns.
The game would've been great with a campaign though.

disappointing there is no singleplayer hopefully the multiplayer will be worth it
