Microsoft Studios acquires rights to Gears of War series

4.7
Microsoft Studios has purchased the rights to the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games, Microsoft announced. The publisher will take over all existing and future games in the series, and will hand development of future games over to Vancouver, BC developer Black Tusk Studios. Formerly Microsoft Vancouver, Black Tusk was said to be working on a new AAA game for Xbox One as of June 2013.

Rod Fergusson, former Director of Production at Epic Games on the Gears of War franchise, is joining Microsoft and will play a "key studio leadership role" at Black Tusk. The last time we heard from Fergusson he was launching a new studio for 2K in the Bay Area; it would appear that relationship didn't work out.

Each entry in the four-game Gears of War series was published by Microsoft since its introduction in November 2006. The last Epic-developed game in the series was Gears of War: Judgment, which launched in March 2013.

hopefully Microsoft can make a franchise series game come back really good

Kinda had a gut feeling they were gonna sell out due to the quality of judgement. Lets just cross our fingers and hope they don't 343 the gears series.

TeamZyzz yeeeeee I'll just stick with GoW3. If they could re-make 3 without the retro and sawed off we'd have the perfect game.

You and I think alike. I want the way of searching games back from Gears 1. I preferred that to just joining games already in progress.

Katsumi
platyui If they are to make a game for the xbox one thay need to forget about Judgment and go back to GoW3 style games.

I agree. I was a big fan of GoW3 but didn't really like judgement honestly.

No one liked judgment. If they say they do they're lying or prefer the CoD style gameplay (run and shoot at everything).
