Microsoft Studios acquires rights to Gears of War series

4.7
Microsoft Studios has purchased the rights to the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games, Microsoft announced. The publisher will take over all existing and future games in the series, and will hand development of future games over to Vancouver, BC developer Black Tusk Studios. Formerly Microsoft Vancouver, Black Tusk was said to be working on a new AAA game for Xbox One as of June 2013.

Rod Fergusson, former Director of Production at Epic Games on the Gears of War franchise, is joining Microsoft and will play a "key studio leadership role" at Black Tusk. The last time we heard from Fergusson he was launching a new studio for 2K in the Bay Area; it would appear that relationship didn't work out.

Each entry in the four-game Gears of War series was published by Microsoft since its introduction in November 2006. The last Epic-developed game in the series was Gears of War: Judgment, which launched in March 2013.

Latias Microsoft coming in to ruin another great series. They ruined Halo and will most likely follow suit here.

This series was already ruined with GoW Judgement so...

Judgment is god awful. If you take out a key core of the game ( active reload ) yeahhh time to stop playing

I hope they can make it better than the old Halos :D

That is 100% opinion. Personally I myself, and many others enjoyed halo. You are coming in that Microsoft ruins all of its series. Thats like me coming in and saying sony is ruining uncharted. But btw, Gears of wars has always been an exclusive, And halo has always been exclusive? Well do you know why sony and MS both have exclusives? These companies get exclusives because they are the main/only reason why the game A. Didn't get cancelled or B. They are the biggest funder. So just remember dont just automatically assume they ruined a series. Personally epic games killed gears of war judgement in my opinion.

Hopefully they don't ruin this series too.

I liked the first couple Gears games for the 360. Never really followed the story though. Don't think I will buy one though. The multiplayer doesn't wow me.

I played the first two games, they were pretty good. I hope Microsoft doesn't ruin this series, like the way Sanzaru Games ruined Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, and/or the way Halo 4 was ruined with 343 industries.

If they decide to renew the series I just hope it's nothing like Judgment. It was a huge disappointment. If you disagree please look at their population on that sorry game.
