Halo 5's unnamed Spartan is a new character

The Spartan soldier standing right-side-up in the Halo 5: Guardians title art released Friday is an entirely new character.

The new character stands above Master Chief, with the series protagonist seeming to appear as his reflection. Halo executive producer Josh Holmes gave some clarification to speculating fans via Twitter.

"For everyone speculating about the mysterious Spartan in Halo 5: Guardians, he’s not Palmer (or Cortana!). He’s a NEW character. :) #Halo"

Palmer refers to Commander Sarah Palmer, who appeared in Halo 4 and Halo: Spartan Assault. Cortana is the Master Chief's long-time companion, who fans might have associated with the unnamed Spartan because of his glowing blue visor.

Another piece of Halo 5 art released Friday depicts a dry, dusty alien settlement, potentially a setting for the Master Chief's continued adventures.

"Halo 5: Guardians is a bigger effort than Halo 4. That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what's now a brand new and more powerful engine," 343 Industries general manager Bonnie Ross wrote in the announcement Friday.

Halo 5: Guardians is planned for release on Xbox One in fall 2015.

Cortana saves your life and helps you multiple times during the span of the Halo series. I fail to see how she is pointless

Yes it is all about him, hence the second sentence says this new spartan is above him in the picture. I just hope it is a Spartan II or Spartan III. Tired of these fake Spartan IV's.
