Xbox 360 and Wii owners have migrated to PS4, Sony says

Research shows that a significant number of Xbox 360 and Wii owners have migrated to PS4 during the early stages of the latest console cycle, according to Sony.

In a newly published PlayStation interview, Worldwide Studios senior VP of product development Scott Rohde cited data from industry tracking firm Nielsen to back up the company's claim.

"Everyone in this industry always tracks that kind of stuff," he told CVG. "It's always fascinating to look at all this data. So, two of the things I can talk about - because they're true. 17 per cent of PS4 owners did not own a last-gen console. That in itself is a pretty shocking number.

"31 per cent of PS4 owners did not own a PS3, but they did own either an Xbox 360 or Wii," Rohde continued. "Now, those are some pretty amazing numbers. And that's why, again, I think we're doing things like bringing The Last of Us to PS4, because there's a huge percentage of those people who never got to play it and that's a shame."

Sony recently said that PS4 sales stood at seven million units as of April 6, while Microsoft said in late April that Xbox One shipments totalled five million units. Both platforms launched in November 2013, one year after Wii U. As of March 31, lifetime Wii U sales totalled 6.17 million units.

TOTS PlayStation is **** compared to Xbox I've owned a PS For 2years and i regret every single day since i got my Xbox 360 i am now so happy to wake up in the morning!


They are both good consoles, but for different reasons. A lot of people like Xbox and a lot of people like Playstation.

After owning a PS1/2/3 I moved to xbox/360. Which was a great choice. But for the new gen consoles I decided to give Playstation another try, so I bought a PS4 and I regret doing that becuase it's just the same as PS3 if not worse. So I went out and bought a Xbox One(Way happier now). So currently my PS4 is being my bedroom doorstop.

That's Microsoft's fault for thinking that anyone besides MS fanboys would be willing to pay $100 more for a system that is almost the exact same as it's counterpart.

Sony also opened in more than almost twice the amount of Countries than Microsoft did. Plus Microsoft only recently (within the last month or so) Expanded past 13 Countries. So if you take into account the amount of Countries that each company is selling in and do the numbers Microsoft is Technically in the lead. As of April Microsoft sold a total of 5 million Xbox ones at $500 each which totals 25 million dollars. While Sony as of April sold 7 million at $400 each totaling 28 million dollars but like I said was also Selling in more than almost twice the amount of Countries as Microsoft. Even though Sony sold more doesn't mean Overall they "won". If Microsoft would have open in as many Countries as Sony did Microsoft would have sold far more units and their overall income would have been more. I rest my case.


Most revenue the console makers receive come from the big markets (US/Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia/NZ). The fact that Sony opened in "twice the markets" is really irrelevant. These other markets Sony opened in have much smaller populations, and regardless, most of their revenue does not come from those smaller countries.

If you look at the numbers, Sony is in the lead currently. Why do you think Microsoft cut the Kinect from their system to compete with them if they were "technically in the lead"? If Microsoft opened in as many countries Sony did, it wouldn't have changed a thing as the small amount of people in those markets would have still bought the cheaper PS4.

Also, in the US, Microsoft's home market, the PS4 has sold twice as many systems as the Xbox One. On a personal note, in Canada, the PS4 was sold out for months, yet the Xbox One was pretty easy to find a week or two after launch.

Like I've said, the Wii U (6 million units) has sold more than the Xbox One, so regardless of the excuses you create to try to defend a multi-billion dollar corporation that couldn't care less about you, the numbers do not lie. The Xbox One right now is in third.

This doesn't surprise me, a lot of people i know who were long standing xbox members seem to have gotten PS4's. However there are some good new features to the xbox one.

The PS4 looked the best console at the start and with a lower price tag. The xbox one looks to be gaining momentum now as Microsoft are implementing a lot of cool features.

Gossip It doesn't surprise me at all. Most of my friends transferred to PS4.


It's funny how a large percentage of the people who transferred were tricked by the belief that the PS4 would be a much better system by far (because of the Kinect, price, DRM stuff, etc.). I'm highly doubtful in believing that the majority of those people actually researched each system as well.
