GTA Online updates exceed 12GB PS3 storage

Owners of the 12 GB PS3 system must either upgrade their hard drive to continue playing Grand Theft Auto V or play the game solely offline, Rockstar has revealed in a support page.

Grand Theft Auto Online Title Updates past 1.16, which released on August 19, will require more storage space than the system can hold according to a Rockstar support page.

Since GTA Online and GTA V's Story Mode operate from the same install, players who don't wish to upgrade their hard drives but want to keep playing the story mode will have to do so without connecting to PlayStation Network.

PS3 storage can be replaced using an officially licensed kit or a standard 2.5" SATA hard drive. Consult Sony's official support page for more information on the upgrade process.

More than 34 million copies of Grand Theft Auto V have been shipped since the game released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013. It's planned for release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One this autumn.

Communism Honestly, if you have a 12GB HDD in the first place that's your problem. You need a bigger harddrive to play games like this.


While that's true, I don't believe games should take up 40 GB... That's just crazy in my opinion.

I dont think its the update itself that is 12 GB i think its just the latest update combined with all the previous ones makes the games total data over 12 GB. it makes sense though its a pretty huge game with a lot of content and a lot more to come too.

There is a model of PS that is only 12 I think. Or, at least that is what I was assuming about the situation anyways.


Yes, there is a PS3 that is 12GB but It isn't by HDD, It's digitally. Like in the system. and at the price it is at, It's garbage.


Who would buy that model honestly.


i think when like parents get there kids ps3's they just buy the cheaper version lol


The 12GB is $199, That isn't anywhere near cheaper, I'd rather get a Used 112GB PS3 at $185


yeah but if you were buying used ones the PS3 with the 12gb hard drive would be cheaper, and seen as some parents don't know the difference between the hard drives or what they are used for they will just go for the cheapest one......
