Minecraft Xbox One out this week, Xbox 360 owners to get upgrade deal

Microsoft has confirmed the release date for Minecraft: Xbox One Edition as this Friday, September 5.

The first new-gen console port of the game will be available for download on the Xbox One's digital store for £15.99 / $19.99.

Current owners of the Xbox 360 version of the game will be able to upgrade to the Xbox One version for a reduced price of £2.99 / $4.99.

All downloadable content purchased on the Xbox 360 version can be downloaded again for free on Xbox One, and all Xbox 360 worlds and content can be transferred to the new-gen version so players won't lose their creations.

Microsoft states that the Xbox One version of Minecraft allows for worlds up to 36 times larger than the Xbox 360 version.

Friday's release will be digital only, with players able to buy the game with a credit card or with a prepaid Xbox Gift Card.

Later this month, digital download codes for the game will be sold at selected game retailers, then a full packaged version of the game will be available to buy during the holiday season.

The PS4 version of Minecraft missed its targeted August release window after failing Sony's certification process.

The game has been resubmitted to Sony and Mojang expects a release is imminent.
