Limited edition PS1-style PS4 console announced

Sony has announced a limited edition version of the PS4 featuring the original PlayStation's colour scheme.

Priced at €499 / £399 in Europe, the PS4 20th Anniversary Edition sports a grey finish just like that of the PSone.

A release date has yet to be confirmed, but PlayStation Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said on PS Blog that the console will be available in strictly limited quantities, with just 12,300 units available worldwide.

It will be packaged in a commemorative box and will come with a DualShock 4 controller and PlayStation Camera, each also re-coloured PlayStation grey. The touch pad on the DualShock 4 will also sport a 20th Anniversary pattern.


"Given this very limited production run, the 20th Anniversary Edition will not be available via traditional retail channels in the SCEE region," Yoshida said. "Look out for more information soon on how you can get your hands on one of these highly collectable consoles."

In the US and Canada, PS4 20th Anniversary Edition "will be available in very limited supply" for pre-order starting this Saturday, December 6, Yoshida wrote on the US PS Blog. "Please watch the PlayStation Experience keynote starting Saturday morning at 10:00am Pacific Time to learn more."

Looks pretty decent I must say. Doubt it will have many sales as many people have the original PS4. But still nice way to celebrate the 20th anniversary.

MVPapi So the people who pre-order the PS4 (or Xbox and many other consoles) get the worst version ever to be released. They pay the most amount of money for that console, then a year later you have amazing looking limited editions. I applauded Microsoft for their Day One version of the Xbox One, I just wish more companies would do limited editions for pre-orders. I pre-ordered the PS3 and PS4 and the PS4 was the 60GB which was discontinued in a year for a much better model. This looks absolutely stunning, I would have bought it but I already have my PS4. I just hope the XB1 has some nice looking limited edition when I get the money to buy one


I see what you mean, they should have made the limited edition ones the pre-order consoles. Bringing consoles this amazing out after everyone has one is stupid!

Pfft, I wouldn't pay 400 quid just to have a PS4 in a PS1 shell. This is much more than just that, it's great!
