Steam Machines 'more powerful' than consoles hit this fall

4.6
Valve continues to put console gaming in its crosshairs with news that a dozen new Steam Machines are hitting this November. Prices aren't concrete, but the company promises higher performance than game consoles starting at "the same price point." What's more, new units from Alienware and Falcon Northwest are on display at this year's Game Developers Conference, with the latter showing off Unreal Tournament running on a 4K monitor.

These aren't intended for those users tho. These are for people who want a gaming PC but don't want or have the space for a bulky desktop.

Actually, it's intended for a steaming PC.

With Steam you can stream your game to a different PC.
Meaning you could have the "console experience of sitting on a couch with a big screen" while your Desktop is doing all the work.

Probably gonna get me one of those. But I've seen the control was bad unless thats a different console I've seen.

Sounds amazing but a lot of people will stick with the current consoles.. considering ive spent well over 10-12 years on xbox i dont see myself swapping and also because of friends probably wouldnt get it for the same reason

If you look at the price to performance ratio on these things you can clearly see they're rip offs. I don't recall exactly which one I saw but, I checked the prices on the parts and you'd be paying something like 2 times what you'd pay if you built it yourself. Honestly, I don't know who would buy this. No one can use the argument of not wanting to have a bulky pc because you can just do a mini ITX build. My 12 year old cousin just built his first PC recently by himself so, not knowing how doesn't really hold up that well either.

I Don't particularly intend to play on this, but I will find it interesting how the sales number will compare to that of the other consoles come the end of the year.
