A PSN user got his account hacked and lost $600, and Sony won't refund
Reddit user Kadjar claims that his account was hacked. The hacker then used the user’s credit card to make about $600 in purchases from the PlayStation Store. Another thing the hacker did was to deactivate Kadjar’s PS4 from the account.
Kadjar naturally followed through with Sony’s customer support and a few interesting proceedings took place afterwards. According to Kadjar, Sony promised to investigate the incident but said that even if they were to refund him anything, it would be a maximum of $150, which is the maximum amount a person can have in their PSN wallet at any one time.
Additionally, Kadjar was advised that if he were to speak to his credit card company and request a chargeback, he would have his PSN account banned, losing all his purchases, trophies, etc… Which is something Sony has been known to do, according to a few reports on its forums.
Further complicating the matter is that because the hacker deactivated Kadjar’s PS4 and activated theirs instead, he will have to wait six months before he can reactivate his PSN account on his own PS4. The reason being Sony’s policy, which limits the number of times you can deactivate your account from a console to once every six months.
Kadjar has received lots of messages from other users offering to replace the games he would lose. The latest update he posted points towards another Sony representative looking into the matter.
It’s worth noting that we cannot confirm whether or not a hack did indeed take place, but as Kotaku notes, this is probably a good time to remind everyone that Sony, unlike Steam and Xbox Live, does not offer a two-factor authentication system.

One of the reasons I sold my PlayStation ages ago. Stupid thing had charged me for that crappy PlayStation+ membership when I had deactivated it. Called their support (costing me 4GBP), they said they were unable to refund me. Quite stupid really, but Sony have always been known for their crappy customer support; at least that's how I picture them. Terrible support, terrible service and overall terrible company.

Well If this really is true then sony really have some work to do on their security. I've been an XBL member for 5 years and have never been anything close to being hacked...and well if this is a case of some little kid trying to get "10th" lul well then thats just his own fault.

They really need to step up their security. That's why I'm on Xbox, the security is much better.

DPM He probably fell for the 'Let me go on your account and do a prestige hack' trick lol.
Garuentee that is what happened.

MoCapODST Let's see the facts here:
1) Guy's information is stolen from him.
2) "Hacker" is able to log into a new console and access the guy's account from new ps4 and make his (the hacker's) ps4 the primary ps4
3) Guy doesn't cancel his card during the purchase of $600 worth of items.
4) Guy claims it's Sony's fault that the "Hacker" was able to get into his single targeted account.
If I didn't know any better, this sounds like a child going to one of those "Get $$$ FREE" sites. Put in his information and credit card number and then thought he was going to be just fine. While I don't agree with how Sony is handling this situation, I believe the guy is more at fault in this situation.
That might actually be a possibility of what happened.
You can't write him off like that. For all you know he could have an infected PC with a keylogger, and had those details logged from the PSN site, it does happen.

A bit stressing reading the story.
Must be very stressful for the victim.
Would be very upset with the situation.
